Two Poems

By Loren Kleinman

Warsaw

I believe Warsaw arrived in search of me.

I don’t know how, or why, or when.

Some streets curve toward Białołęka.

Some lead to Łomza or Bemowo.

I can say few words: Jestem, jeden, dwa.

It is difficult to get through to you.

When I am alone, far away from you,
I think how to say the words in the Polish:

I love you may be Kocham…cie.

Kocham cie,  Warsaw.

Even if you do not.

Tanka

Fall.  Echoes ring as

loud as castanets.  I bring

you my skin dressed in

leaves.  I will string your diamond-

studded laughter across the sky.
