When my picture appears
on your glowing screen
that’s all I ask.
Link me to a part of yourself
that is tender
and forgiving, that is virtually
perpetual.
The New Space
We all wanted it, of
course. Though
for a while it was only a
rumor, a space
only of dream. We all
thought if we could
see it, perhaps
stand inside the
new space, we would
understand at least
how it became some-
thing so desirable
at this juncture.
It was only a space,
after all, only
the absence of solid
substance. We were
drawn to that.
And when the new space
became what it was
destined to become
we all thought the world
was just, and the light,
once taken for
granted, became a sweet
indulgence, almost,
really, a refutation
of imminent darkness.
