October 2009 Editor's Note

Dear Reader:

Thank you for visiting us this autumn, a season of restless transitions. In this issue, Rachel Richardson tells of a troubled pregnancy in the story "Circulation," while Brandon Webb's protagonist in "Translation" journeys away from a territory he's lived in all his life. Reflecting autumn's annual intrusion of the elements upon our attention, this issue's poems contain images of change amid tides, rain, and gusts of wind. Brooklyn artist Maria Levitsky examines empty spaces with photographs that suggest events just past, or about to come. We're also pleased to introduce our first music review, in which Jack Borrebach critiques recent work by Michael Daugherty.

Yours,
