Dear Reader:

We at Brink relish the minor key: A meditative note runs through this,
our eighth issue, particularly in the poems. Ben Jasnow creates a
spare portrait of a soldier, Gabriel DeCrease reflects on the
impossibility of explaining Cabrini Green, and Jennifer Russ elegizes
her mother.

In Brink's first nonfiction essay, Michael Milburn writes about his
place in the classroom. Tina Higgins' short story reveals a glimpse of
an abusive marriage, and Elinor Teele's photographs examine overlooked
traces of man and nature.
